How to Set Motion Detection Alarm

by Kyle LaPach 29 Apr 2025

Answer:

Motion detection monitors object movement within a specified area and triggers an alarm based on detection sensitivity, object size, and historical motion data.

Note: Only certain models support this function. Management pages and settings may vary. Always verify against your specific camera model's Web interface.

Steps:

Area Detection:

  1. Navigate to Setup > Events > Common Alarm > Motion Detection. Set Detection Mode to Area.
  2. Create a detection area by clicking and dragging on the preview screen.
  3. Adjust sensitivity, object size, and history to fine-tune detection accuracy.
  4. Configure alarm parameters like Suppress Alarm(s) and Clear Alarm(s).
  5. Assign alarm-triggered actions such as:
    • Triggering alarm outputs
    • Going to a preset (PTZ cameras)
    • Uploading snapshots to FTP or sending alarm info to the center
    • Triggering email alerts or recordings
    • Starting auto-tracking (if supported)
  6. Set an alarm plan with specified active periods (up to four per day).
  7. Click Save to apply settings.

Grid Detection:

  1. Navigate to Setup > Events > Motion Detection. Set Detection Mode to Grid.
  2. Define irregular detection areas directly on the grid layout.
  3. Adjust sensitivity and configure alarm parameters similar to Area Detection.
  4. Assign alarm-triggered actions and schedule plans as needed.
  5. Click Save to complete configuration.
